15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5
We are told that the days are evil and that one would be wise to make the most of the time that they now have. None of us know how many days we have left to live in this life of ours. No matter how much we study and have divine revelation, we also don’t know how much time we have left as a people upon this earth.
There is so much that is changing even every day around us. We could very well be at war with any number of countries in the near future, and this life that we take so much for granted for, could one day be changed forever.
That is why it so important to take the time to show others around you how much you love them and that their very existence is important to you. We must make the most of the time that we now have upon this earth, for our lives are like a vapor. Our bodies and minds grow older with each passing day and year, and we certainly aren’t the person that we were even a year ago. One notices this especially as they get older. One acquires wisdom hopefully and with this mindset, there is a viewpoint of looking back over the years, but also of looking ahead to what lies down the road.
We watch our own children grow into adulthood and raise families of their own, and we are reminded of the transitory quality of life. And yet one must somehow see beyond the existence of this life that we now live. Indeed, what would the very reason be of life but to die and become dust in the earth forever more, as an end to everything? So, then as we have been told these three abide: faith, hope, and love. These three everlasting elements of the divine universe remain forever ingrained as a deposit into eternity.
And yet the time that we now spend toiling upon this earth is and will become even more important. One races to work every day, going out the door and traveling to their place of business in this rat race of life for many. Surely a person must see beyond the work load and the paycheck that comes. Of what importance would there be in just going through the motions and eventually falling in a heap at the end of the day?
So, realize that indeed the days are growing more evil in this generation of time that we are now living in. We are told that the prophets of old inquired about the days ahead that we are now living in. We know that indeed there would be perilous times ahead, and we now see them all around us. We are told that men would be lovers of themselves, and that they would be covetous, proud, boastful, unthankful and unholy. We are told that they would be without natural affection, fierce, despisers of that which is good. And as important if not more than the others, we are told that some would have a form of godliness, but would deny the power thereof. ( 2 Tim. 3:1-5)
We are also told that it is better to go to the house of mourning rather than to the house of feasting. This is precisely because this is the end of all men. This is the whole premise of the saying, “Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.” So then, do whatever you want to do today because we all will die, and that is the end of all things. But for those who believe, there is a life beyond the grave. We are told that the grave will not hold us, for it is said,
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 1 Cor. 15
Many scoff at the notion that this great land that we now live in, could one day be invaded. Many scoff at the idea that our land masses would change because of catastrophic natural events as well as outside forces. Many think that because the sun is shining outside their window now, that everything will go on as it always has forever. Perhaps it would be better to make the most of your time now, and live as wise men.
