“EAT AND DRINK”

For weeks, the Lord has been bringing this word to my life: “Eat and drink.” Today, while meditating on it, I felt that this is a word for many of the Lord’s servants. Many are exhausted, many are without direction, many are tired and disappointed.

Let us look at the context.

Elijah Flees to Horeb

Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying:

“May the gods deal with me, and may they do so even more, if by this time tomorrow I have not made your life like the lives of those prophets.”

When Elijah saw the danger, he got up and fled for his life. He came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Then he went into the wilderness for a day’s journey. He sat down under a broom tree and, overwhelmed, wished that he could die. He said:

“It is enough, LORD. Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. Suddenly, an angel touched him and said:

“Get up and eat.”

He looked, and there beside his head was a cake baked over hot coals and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and then lay down again.

The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him, saying:

“Get up and eat, because the journey is too much for you.”

So he got up, ate and drank, and strengthened by that food, he traveled for forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.

Elijah had done so much work for the Lord. On top of that came the persecution from Jezebel and her husband. Elijah had reached his limit, to the point where he desired to die.

Many of us, because of the times we are living in and because of the bombings and everything that is happening around us, may feel just like Elijah.

But the Lord’s command is:

“Eat and drink.”

And if necessary, rest.

Brother, step aside for a moment so that you can rest. You cannot give what you do not have. How are you going to minister to others if you yourself need to rest?

You know, Jesus also had a place where He rested, where He spent time with His friends. That place was known as Bethany.

Find your own Bethany and rest, just as the Lord did.

We are living in the end times. we are standing on the edge of chaos Yes. But that does not mean that you should not rest.

Sometimes resting is not a lack of faith. Sometimes resting is obedience.

The word for you today is:

“EAT AND DRINK.”

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
