The Silent Unseen Work Of God

In 1Kings chapters 5 and 6, we read about King Solomon, gathering all the building materials to build the house of the Lord. Although King David had it in his heart to build the house, the Lord told David that there was too much blood on his hands, from all the wars that he had fought..his son Solomon would be the one who built the house. Solomon contracted out the work to Hiram king of Tyre, to supply cedar trees, and fir trees, and the great stones that were cut out of the quarries up in the mountains. All of the timber, stones, everything…was measured and cut precisely in the forests, and in the quarries, before it was brought to the location where the temple was to be built. But here is the verse of scripture that is just amazing to me. (1Kings 6:7) reads: “And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.”

I had read that verse many times, but about three months ago, while in my daily Bible study, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit upon me when I read that verse. I sensed that the Lord was trying to open up a great spiritual truth to me, in those words that I had just read. This was a fearful and awesome work unto the Lord, that was to be carried out in reverence, and holy silence. I believe the Lord has spoken to me, that this same silent holy work is happening AGAIN RIGHT NOW….worldwide in the realm of the spirit. In Solomon’s time, there was a silent work being carried out by God’s people, by the building OF HIS TEMPLE. Now, at this present time, there is a silent spiritual work being carried out by the Lord himself, IN HIS TEMPLE..the temple of his Holy Spirit, which consists of believers in Jesus Christ! Please hear me church…I believe that there is an awesome, and holy unseen work, and move of God that is going on right now secretly, and silently, in the lives of God’s beaten and battered saints.

Many of us right now, that God is going to use greatly in the future, are going through great fires of purification, purging, and afflictions. I have personally been going through the purging, and afflictions for 13 years straight now…but it is of God. If God had not allowed affliction in my life, I would still be a backslider, and maybe in hell. (Psalm 119:67) “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now have I kept thy word.” It is my personal feeling, that if you aren’t going through something, or coming out of something right now, you may want to check and make sure that you are even really saved! Judgement starts first at the house of God. (1Pet 4:17) The chastisements smart, and the pain is real, but the same loving hands that wound us, will also heal us. Some of us have gotten our hopes up.. then hope is deferred. (Prov.13:12) Some of us keep looking for the cloud (The move of the spirit), and “there is nothing.” (1Kings 18:43) Some of us are saying: “So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me” (Job 7:3)

Those of great faith, that we read of in the scriptures, went through many afflictions, loss of friends, family members, and months of silence, when God did not speak to them. If you are going through this now, or if you have ever gone through this, then you know that it is not easy. Weeks go by, even months, and God is still silent…not only is he silent, it’s like nothing seems to ever change. Tomorrow is very predictable…it will be more of the same! You are in no open rebellion to the Lord, you have confessed, and repented of everything that you can think of, yet nothing changes. It’s like you are stuck…stuck in afflictions, and silence! If this applies to you, please listen to what I believe the Lord has shown me about these “silent times.” I believe that these are the times that we are brought up much higher in spiritual elevation. These silent times birth ministries, that will greatly touch other peoples lives…and where men and women of God are molded and shaped, in the secret place…the silent place, in the school of silence.

God has shown me that this silent work that He is doing now, in the remnant church of Jesus Christ, is a beautiful thing, a holy thing, and a righteous thing. It’s a silent work of God, that is NOT to be despised, but we are just to simply be still, humbly submit, and say: “Have thine own way Lord, have thine own way.” While this silent process is going on, we may see no changes in our current physical situation, but a great and mighty work is being done in us, in our spiritual lives. We are so often like Elisha’s servant, fearful and unbelieving, so that Elisha prayed and said: “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw; and, behold the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” (2Kings 6:17) I believe with all my heart, in the spirit world right now, that physical healing is taking place…it just has not manifested itself into the natural realm (hold on..it’s coming) Long standing bondage’s of sin, and satanic strongholds are about to be broken, we just don’t see it yet. (hold on..it’s coming) Indeed, every single thing that we need, whatever it may be, was done for us at the cross of Jesus Christ. It is finished!

Hold on saints of God, the silence will not last for ever, and a change in your situation… for the better is coming. The Lord does his best work “undercover”…under the darkness of night, in the unseen world of silence. With our natural eye we see no change yet, but by faith we know that he has heard our prayers, his eye is upon us, his ear is open unto our cry…. and the answer is on the way. Let me give an example: I have traveled many times to the state of Colorado, from my home here in Missouri. Here at my location in Missouri, the elevation is about 574 ft. above sea level. About fourteen hours after leaving home, driving nonstop, I would be well into the plains of Eastern Colorado, yet an amazing, silent, unseen thing has happened. I’ve now risen up to around 5,400 ft….up over one mile higher in the sky than when I left my house, even though there is no evidence of it, everything still looks the same… the land is still nearly flat as a pancake! (Heb 11:1) “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

The silent unseen work of God brings us up higher in spiritual elevation, closer to God, yet many times we don’t feel that way, we feel just the opposite…like he has left us. As we get up higher and closer to God, all of the little sins, (if there is such a thing) that never use to bother us, begin to become much more obvious to us, and the Holy Spirit begins to convict us of things that we never even knew that we were doing, and shines the light on things that we didn’t even know were in our hearts. A few days ago, I was using a dust mop on my kitchen floor, at about 7:30 pm in the evening. I had the kitchen light on, but I really could not see any dirt on the floor. But where the setting sun was shining on the floor…My Goodness!!…it really showed how filthy that floor really was! In other words, the closer we get to the light, (God) the more our impurities show up.” Friends, you and I have much work that still needs to be done in our hearts, by the Holy Spirit!

Your current situation is being changed right now for the better, by God’s unseen hand, in the unseen realm. Just believe..even though it hasn’t manifested itself into the natural yet. We walk BY FAITH, and NOT BY SIGHT, so believe, and expect to receive. God is in control. I want to touch on one more thing about the silent unseen work of God. I believe that God’s unseen work in our lives stirs up Satan’s anger like nothing else.When we are going through these tough times, when we see nothing changing in our circumstances, Satan can very well see what God is doing in our lives, in the unseen world of the spirit. Often, Satan will launch some of his biggest attacks from hell, during these times.

I remember David Wilkerson speaking about an incident that happened at Times Square Church, years ago. They were all gathered in church one morning, and a great move of the Holy Spirit took place. An awe inspiring wave of silence…a “Holy Hush” moved over the congregation, and throughout the building..a deep sense of God’s holiness, and righteousness, manifested in a profound move of silence, to where you could have heard a pin drop! I believe he said that it went on for nearly a half an hour or so, just silence, and occasional soft weeping, as the Holy Spirit was doing a mighty silent work in peoples lives, and manifesting his awesome presence.

At this particular time, there happened to be a homeless man, (a drunk, or a junkie) asleep in the audience, who had come in off the streets, to get warm. This silent move of the Holy Spirit woke this man out of his slumber, and put him into a rage! The man calmly got up from his chair, walked out of Times Square Church unto the busy street, picked up a heavy metal trash can, and threw it through the windshield of a parked car. Then he turned around, and walked right back into church, and sat down in his seat like nothing happened! (Obviously the man was demon oppressed..he didn’t even know why he did it.)

Needless to say, the police entered the building, searched and found the man in the audience, arrested him, and the silent move of the Holy Spirit was interrupted, and brought to a halt. (Which is exactly what Satan wanted in the first place.) The moral of the story: Don’t let Satan interrupt this time of silence in your life! God is doing a work in you, even though you can’t see it. Trust me on this. He is silently at work in your life preparing you for something. Maybe YOU can’t see what’s going on, but GOD can! I just want to encourage you, if you are in a time of affliction, and God is silent, and you see no sign of your situation changing…here is what I believe the Lord wants you to hear, and embrace: (Psalm 46:10) “Be still, and know that I am God” This literally means to “cease striving”, and to “let go..relax” ( I strongly feel this is a word for someone reading this.) You are alone. You are hurting, you are fearful, and you are about ready to give up. I believe God is saying: “Peace…be still. Turn lose, and let it all go. Lay this burden down at the cross right now, and relax. Trust me…I’ve got this.”

If you have repented of all known sin, are broken, and humble…like a little child, you have nothing to fear. God has not left you, and he is not mad at you… your name is graven upon his hands. (Isaiah 49:16) He is tenderly watching over you, with deep compassion in his heart towards you. The silent unseen work of God is taking you up higher, preparing you for something good…something big. I believe that God has a hidden army in boot camp right now, preparing us for the final showdown with the forces of hell. We are His tribulation saints, being spiritually prepared by God, to flee into the wilderness, in a SECOND EXODUS, supernaturally sustained by God from the face of a wicked modern day pharaoh. And this wicked modern day pharaoh is this present anti-christ beast system. (Rev.12:6 & Rev.12:14)

We are God’s “Wounded Warriors” that are being chastised and purged..wounded by God’s own loving hand. God gives special attentive care to those who he himself has wounded, for disciplinary reasons. He does not afflict willingly (Lam 3:33) The Lord says in (Deut.32:39) “I wound, and I heal” (Job.5:18) says: “For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.” When God releases some of us, from our silent caves of solitude, many of us who were once “hell raisers”, will be coming out, battle hardened “hell shakers”.. all by the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and to the the utter dismay of Satan!

If your life is at a standstill, you see no change…nothing but silence…just be still and embrace the silence, and listen for the still small voice. Let the potter mold you into what he wants. Please believe me, this is a righteous thing, a beautiful thing. A spiritual “Holy Hush,” is taking place right now in the lives of many who are earnestly seeking his face. Just because you can’t see anything happening in the natural realm, means nothing. If you see no evidence of anything happening that you have been praying for, guess what? You are in the faith! (Heb.11:1) “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

God is carefully watching over you during these times, especially his wounded, and brokenhearted. (Lam 3:32) says: “But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.” Heavenly Father, I pray that this word may in some way encourage and strengthen the wounded, the brokenhearted, the hurting, and the afflicted of your flock. May they sense and know that you are there…carefully watching over them, though you may be silent towards them for a season. May they know that your plans for them are for good, and not for evil. In the name of Jesus I pray… Amen.
