The final creation of the new heaven and new earth is the ultimate event in biblical prophecy. In the Book of Revelation, it unfolds sequentially after a series of major end-times events.

The Prophetic Sequence of Events

According to mainstream premillennial eschatology, as outlined in Revelation chapters 19–21, the chronological timeline unfolds as follows:

The Tribulation: A seven-year period of severe global distress and divine judgment poured out upon the earth.

The Second Coming of Christ: Jesus returns physically and visibly in glory with His saints to defeat the Antichrist at Armageddon.

The Binding of Satan: Satan is bound and cast into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years, removing his deceptive influence from the earth.

The Millennial Kingdom: Christ establishes a literal 1,000-year reign of perfect peace, justice, and righteousness, ruling directly from Jerusalem.

The Final Rebellion: At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan is released briefly, gathers a final rebellious army, and is swiftly defeated by fire from heaven. He is then thrown permanently into the Lake of Fire.

The Great White Throne Judgment: The final judgment, where all unbelievers throughout history are judged according to their works. Death and Hades are then cast into the Lake of Fire.

The Destruction of the Old Creation: The present heavens and earth, corrupted by sin, pass away and are completely purified by fire, removing every trace of sin and the curse.

The New Heaven and New Earth: Yahweh God creates an entirely new heaven and new earth, and the New Jerusalem descends from heaven to become the eternal dwelling place where God lives with His redeemed people forever.
