Mene, Mene: America, You Have Been Found Wanting

One of the most famous scenes in the Bible is described in Daniel 5, when Babylonian King Belshazzar observes “the finger of a man’s hand” (really God) writing on the wall of his palace. The writing was “MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN”, warning the king of events to come. King Belshazzar had crossed the line with blatant defilement of all that was holy, and God’s righteous anger would soon become manifest.
There is a parallel with the United States. Our nation has been blessed with tremendous peace and prosperity, with no wars on our soil since the Civil War. But there is compelling evidence that that is about to change.
