Two Christians Detained in Hell

Years ago in the military I had an encounter with two similar Christians, one Roman Catholic and the other Protestant. They were living with me in the same barracks because we were in the same company. In separate one-on-one conversations these Marines told me that they were sleeping around, and they were completely satisfied and exuberant about it.

The Protestant was telling me about his favorite type of women oblivious to the fact that I was not about to miss the danger of it all.
The Roman Catholic was less excited but no less treating the sin as completely acceptable as if even God must have been happy with it!

Well I went right back to that Protestant the second I had a moment to think about what he told me and I informed him that, out of love, I had to warn him about the consequences of fornication–that all who practice it without repentance will be cast into hell no matter their religious beliefs. I told the same thing to the Catholic in not-too-different words. He was rather shocked but that is what I told them without any room for excuses. Naturally I also explained the relevance of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That same night I had this dream:

I was standing over two prisoner / detainees.
They were on their knees, heads down.
I knew somehow that this was hell.
From a hand that I did not see, a slip of paper was given to me, even smaller than a cashier’s receipt.
On it was one simple sentence:

“The Laws of God are more binding than all the laws of man.”

That was all and I awoke. I share this dream to point out that we are all susceptible to being read the same rebuke when we stand before the Throne of God. The timeless moral Law of God, in contrast to the temporal law of Moses, is absolute and comes from the New Testament against all willful immorality–regardless of any belief or prayer or list of good works. There is no Christian immune to this law:

“He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:7-8

“What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?”
Romans 6:15-16

“…you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”
1 Corinthians 6:8-10

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Galatians 5:19-21

“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?”
Hebrews 3:12-16

” For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for [ our ] sins, but a certain fearful expectation of [ our ] judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Hebrews 10:26-31

“You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.”
Romans 11:19-22

“But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.”
Numbers 32:23

“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'”
Matthew 22:8-13

“You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”
Revelation 3:4-5

“Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.”
Revelation 3:17-19
