There’s a poison inside the body of Christ

There’s a poison inside the body of Christ. It is a growing ache, a toxin of self. People are happy to sing the songs, to nod their heads in agreement to profess me with their lips but their hearts are not with me. They love this world. They love the idea of me, but in their hearts they do not know me.

They do not love me. They love themselves and the world that they have created around them. It is familiar and comfortable and predictable, and many of them don’t want to leave it. They don’t want to let go of their kingdoms and exchange them for mine. To follow me means to drop what is in your hand and whatever is weighing you down. To place everything that has defined you up to that point to the side, and trust in my leading, as I direct your steps.

People are hesitant to follow me because they do not believe that I am good. They have twisted and convoluted perceptions of who I am and what my character is. If they do not believe that I am good, and trustworthy, omnipotent and omniscient, they will not fall into step behind me. They will trust in their own perceptions, what they see, what they hear, what they feel and what they think they know in their minds. This is what is real to them. More real than myself or my voice.

So they stay on their own paths, diverging from mine. They see me from a distance, keeping me apart, yet in view. They don’t want to deny me, but they don’t want to know me either.

Matthew 4:19
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

Isaiah 29:13
The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.
