The Unexpected Earthquake, the Unexpected Ending

In a dream vision, The Holy Spirit took me into the mind of a woman who had just awoken from deep sleep to discover that her wooden house had partially collapsed from what appeared to have been a massive earthquake. She had no memory of struggling through the earthquake at all, so she was surprised. Her town wasn’t in a serious earthquake zone, so she was surprised about that as well. The morning sun’s rays lit up the debris—from the broken ceiling and the objects fallen from shelves—that lay all over the floor, which was slanted at an angle. In fact, the ceiling and interior walls were all at odd angles—no 90-degree corners anywhere.

As the woman tried to raise herself, walk around, and inspect the damage, she felt something quite off about her body. She couldn’t move far and something that felt like gravity pulled her down and back. Then the thought occurred to her that she might be dying or even dead, her body lying pinned somewhere in the building, and her soul no longer in her body. She realized that in her dying she was alone. No neighbors or community emergency workers had come to check on her. She was not being aided or rescued. She understood that her time had come.

With a quavering mix of both hope and doubt, the woman wondered if her soul was in a right enough relationship with God. Though she had repented of her sins, several times before, had she repented recently of any newer ones? Had she forgiven others even as she asked for God’s forgiveness? Before she had gone to sleep that night, had she said one last prayer, calling on Jesus to have mercy upon her? Just as she could not remember the earthquake, she could not remember what prayers she may have said before she lay down for the last time.

When I write about this dream vision, the Holy Spirit tells me that this vision is not just about a literal earthquake. It is about a current political and fiscal structure, a “Babylon”—constructed with flaws in its foundation, engineering, and materials—that like a house of cards, with the right pressure and shaking, comes down quickly and completely, causing carnage to those within it and the end of life as many know it.

Scripture:

Matthew 25:1-13 (AMPC)

25 Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

2 Five of them were foolish (thoughtless, without forethought) and five were wise (sensible, intelligent, and prudent).

3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them;

4 But the wise took flasks of oil along with them [also] with their lamps.

5 While the bridegroom lingered and was slow in coming, they all began nodding their heads, and they fell asleep.

6 But at midnight there was a shout, Behold, the bridegroom! Go out to meet him!

7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order.

8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.

9 But the wise replied, There will not be enough for us and for you; go instead to the dealers and buy for yourselves.

10 But while they were going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were prepared went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut.

11 Later the other virgins also came and said, Lord, Lord, open [the door] to us!

12 But He replied, I solemnly declare to you, I do not know you [I am not acquainted with you].

13 Watch therefore [give strict attention and be cautious and active], for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come.

John 8:24 (AMPC)

24 That is why I told you that you will die in (under the curse of) your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He [Whom I claim to be—if you do not adhere to, trust in, and rely on Me], you will die in your sins.

Revelation 18:2-11;17-19 (AMPC)

2 And he shouted with a mighty voice, She is fallen! Mighty Babylon is fallen! She has become a resort and dwelling place for demons, a dungeon haunted by every loathsome spirit, an abode for every filthy and detestable bird.

3 For all nations have drunk the wine of her passionate unchastity, and the rulers and leaders of the earth have joined with her in committing fornication (idolatry), and the businessmen of the earth have become rich with the wealth of her excessive luxury and wantonness.

4 I then heard another voice from heaven saying, Come out from her, my people, so that you may not share in her sins, neither participate in her plagues.

5 For her iniquities (her crimes and transgressions) are piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her wickedness and [her] crimes [and calls them up for settlement].

6 Repay to her what she herself has paid [to others] and double [her doom] in accordance with what she has done. Mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed [for others].

7 To the degree that she glorified herself and reveled in her wantonness [living deliciously and luxuriously], to that measure impose on her torment and anguish and tears and mourning. Since in her heart she boasts, I am not a widow; as a queen [on a throne] I sit, and I shall never see suffering or experience sorrow—

8 So shall her plagues (afflictions, calamities) come thick upon her in a single day, pestilence and anguish and sorrow and famine; and she shall be utterly consumed (burned up with fire), for mighty is the Lord God Who judges her.

9 And the rulers and leaders of the earth who joined her in her immorality (idolatry) and luxuriated with her will weep and beat their breasts and lament over her when they see the smoke of her conflagration.

10 They will stand a long way off, in terror of her torment, and they will cry, Woe and alas, the great city, the mighty city, Babylon! In one single hour how your doom (judgment) has overtaken you!

11 And earth’s businessmen will weep and grieve over her because no one buys their freight (cargo) any more.

17 Because in one [single] hour all the vast wealth has been destroyed (wiped out). And all ship captains and pilots, navigators and all who live by seafaring, the crews and all who ply their trade on the sea, stood a long way off,

18 And exclaimed as they watched the smoke of her burning, What city could be compared to the great city!

19 And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and grieved, exclaiming, Woe and alas, for the great city, where all who had ships on the sea grew rich [through her extravagance] from her great wealth! In one single hour she has been destroyed and has become a desert!
