In a dream vision, the Holy Spirit showed me a scene in which a group of people who appeared to be Christians approached an old woman’s house. These people wore items that identified themselves as Christians—crosses and Christian-themed T-shirts—and carried small backpacks with them. At first, these people were friendly and charming to the woman, who already was a disciple of Christ. While she chatted with them at her front door, trusting that they only had good intentions, one by one they snuck by her into her house.
Once in the house, these so-called Christians surveyed items in her living room, and took any objects made of precious metal—mostly silverware but even brass candleholders—placing the items in their backpacks. Once the woman realized what was going on—home invasion and theft in broad daylight—she protested and tried to kick them out. She was outnumbered and it was too late to recover her stolen items. They mocked her and intimidated her, scolding her that she had no right to complain. What they did was justified. In fact, she was the one in error. They were only taking her tithe offering. These thieves reminded her that scripture stated, “The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of hosts” (Haggai 2:8 AMPC). As they stole, they claimed they were only taking what belonged to God, and they were doing God’s business.
As I awoke from this dream vision, the Holy Spirit made it clear to me that as the dollar dwindles in value, and gold and silver prices skyrocket, some avaricious churches will “shakedown” congregants for tithe payments in gold and silver. He reminds us that, according to the Book of Acts 20:35 (AMPC), “we ought to assist the weak, being mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed (makes one happier and more to be envied) to give than to receive.”
Scripture:
Exodus 22:22-24 (AMPC)
22 You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.
23 If you afflict them in any way and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry;
24 And My wrath shall burn; I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows and your children fatherless.
Psalm 119:72 (AMPC)
72 The law from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
Matthew 7:15 (AMPC)
15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you dressed as sheep, but inside they are devouring wolves.
Matthew 21:12-13 (AMPC)
12 And Jesus went into the temple (whole temple enclosure) and drove out all who bought and sold in the sacred place, and He turned over the four-footed tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who sold doves.
13 He said to them, The Scripture says, My house shall be called a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.
Luke 20:46-47 (AMPC)
46 Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes and love to be saluted [with honor] in places where people congregate and love the front and best seats in the synagogues and places of distinction at feasts,
47 Who make away with and devour widows’ houses, and [to cover it up] with pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation (the heavier sentence, the severer punishment).
Acts 3:6-8 (AMPC)
6 But Peter said, Silver and gold (money) I do not have; but what I do have, that I give to you: in [the use of] the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!
7 Then he took hold of the man’s right hand with a firm grip and raised him up. And at once his feet and ankle bones became strong and steady,
8 And leaping forth he stood and began to walk, and he went into the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
James 1:27 (AMPC)
27 External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world.
