My sink was clogged the other day, and nothing could make it through the pipes. So, all that dirty water sat festering in the tub (sink). I pondered what would be my next step, to clear out the lines

Our bodies, being of a sinful nature, are like those clogged lines. Each sin we partake in, each harsh word that emanates from our mouths, each unsavory thought, each unkindness helps to clog our soul even further.

Life was meant to use our vessel with the least number of blockages. Our soul is weakened by each obtrusion we allow to enter.

Then “Drano” came to mind. I will clear out the lines and everything will work properly again.

Unfortunately, “Drano” is one of those quick fixes that generally do not last long. It patches the problem that still exists. Our souls need more than a patch or fix to continue on the path.

Repentance is like a plumber who can fully clear out the problem. But what do we do after the plumber is gone? Do we stop introducing both new and old things that caused the problem in the first place? Do we change what goes into the sink, each and every day? Or do we continue to throw everything into the kitchen sink, once again, knowing the plumber is always there if we need him?

Life’s sewage can be cleared out with repentance and follow through. For the plumber in life is actually us. Will we create new sewage as we go along the wide path? Or are we knowledgeable to know the narrow path has little wiggle room for refuge, that does not belong?

We make all decisions on which blockages we allow or disallow. You see, the plumber, after we step out of the kitchen (into death), will no longer be around. We make our “bed” by the time we exit life. Some will go to everlasting life and others will still be dirty, clogged and of a sinful nature, going to their master (satan).
