Christians around the world most of us

know that this is not the exact date

that Jesus was born but it is a date

that we have chosen that we recognize

and celebrate his birth I have put a

painting up I don’t know the name of it

and I don’t know the artist and if

but I want to talk about this painting

and I want to talk about what takes

place before the miracle and what took

place before the miracle of the birth of

Jesus which is also the key elements to

our personal miracles as well this

to share with you some out of the Bible

about the birth of Jesus and I want to

okay we’re told in the Book of Luke that

in Elizabeth’s sixth month this was

Mary’s relative that Gabriel was sent by

God to visit a young virgin girl named

Mary in Nazareth in Galilee

so the Gabe gave the angel Gabriel says

to her that she is going to conceive and

she’s going to bear a child a son

she’s gonna conceive a child bear a son

and named him Jesus she answers well how

I’ve not been with a man I know not a

man meaning I am a virgin and Gabriel

replies that nothing is impossible with

God even your relative Elizabeth who is

old and age is now in her sixth month

and Mary’s reply is I am The Lord’s

servant may it be as you have said that

is a key response I’m going to talk

about that in a minute so that Mary

hurries and she travels to Judea Judea

which is about 70 miles and she goes to

Elizabeth’s home and John the Baptist in

the womb in the belly of Elisabeth leaps

and Elizabeth prophesies and Mary breaks

she says so this is what happens she

comes into the home Elizabeth hears her

upon hearing it John the Baptist’s in

her womb in her stomach

leaps she speaks in the spirit to her

and this is Mary’s response and Mary

said my soul glorifies the Lord and my

spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he

has been mindful of the humble state of

his servant from now on all generations

will call me blessed for the Mighty One

has done great things for me holy is his

name his mercy extends to those who fear

Him from generation to generation he has

performed mighty deeds with his arm he

has scattered those who are proud in

their inmost thoughts he has brought

down rulers from their Thrones but he

has lifted up the humble he has filled

sent to the rich away empty he has

helped his servant Israel remembering to

be merciful to Abraham and his

descendants forever and even as he said

to our fathers Mary stayed with

Elizabeth for about three months and

then returned home the remaining part of

the story is

very interesting as well there are some

key elements here so this happens Mary

gets this visit from the angel and she

says may it be as the Lord says she

hurries she packs and she hurries and

she travels 70 miles this is a key thing

that the Bible is a little bit like

the key parts of the story but I want to

talk about the in-between things that’s

not told in the Bible Mary was pledged

to be married it’s almost as if you’re

married in that culture at that time and

still is in some of those cultures and

she’s told she’s going to become

pregnant so she leaves for three months

you have to understand what was going on

here she told Joseph she told Joseph she

was pregnant and in the course of their

conversations there were decisions made

what do you think was going on

personally in their lives

so first of all let me back up Joseph

had a dream dream number one so an angel

comes to Joseph and says don’t divorce

her don’t put her away see before that

it says in Matthew that Mary was engaged

to Joseph and she was found to be with

Joseph was a righteous man and he didn’t

want to expose her publicly and he

planned to divorce her quietly that’s

how he wanted to do it so she had to

have told him she had to have told her

family something went on there that had

to be very very difficult to do

so she leaves quickly and goes 70 miles

to a relative Elizabeth who she knew was

holy and righteous as she went there to

tell what was happening the message of

the angel and she’s greeted immediately

when she gets there so joseph has this

dream and he’s told don’t put her away

make her your wife she is conceived by

the Holy Spirit and named the boy Jesus

and then Joseph woke up he obeyed so

then after the baby is born and all that

went on first of all there’s a part of

the story a lot of people don’t know so

the baby’s born so think of that picture

here this painting the exhaustion and an

angel visits the Shepherds nearby but

these are not ordinary shepherds

these are Levitical shepherds these are

the Shepherds that prepare the spotless

lambs for sacrifice and what do they do

with these lambs they wrap them and

swaddle them and cloths to keep them

without blemish and pure and prepared

for the sacrifice in the barns so

they’re told there will be this will be

the sign you will find a baby wrapped

and swaddled and cloth and in a manger

in a barn they knew what that meant they

rushed to this baby swaddled in cloths

they knew the symbolism that’s why they

became so excited they heard the angel

singing before they even left the field

they were greeted by the angel they were

told by the angel then angels joined in

and saying then the angels left and they

rushed to this stable to find this baby

they knew what it meant and they told

and then information went out like crazy

like spread like wildfire this land

the Messiah was here okay so then what

happens joseph has another dream the

angel says get up take the child and his

mother to Egypt and stay there until I

tell you Joseph obeyed this was

inherited wanted to kill all of the

babies because they they you know he was

hearing that who who is this King who’s

this King coming and he tries to trick

the Magi and the Magi have a dream and

they’re told don’t go back to arid and

tell them the signs of the stars exactly

where he is

they told him initially the signs of the

stars he was trying to figure out the

calculation of when that child was born

so that’s why from two years and under

he killed all the babies all the baby

boys there’s great wailing that going on

so Joseph had left and fled with Mary

and the baby so then there’s another

dream after Herod died an angel appeared

child and his mother and go to the Land

Joseph obeyed but then as they were

getting closer he wanted to go to Judea

but again he was warned in a dream so he

changed paths and he went to Nazareth in

Galilee guess what they’re back in

Mary’s hometown and Joseph obeyed when

you feel so very tired and worn as Mary

and Joseph were I say this so many times

the people we read about in the Bible

were ordinary people but they made

extraordinary decisions they were just

like us a virgin girl pregnant what a

scandal that was enough to be stoned to

death at this

time in this culture girls didn’t behave

this way Joseph a righteous man wanted

to do it quietly as not to expose and

embarrass her and possibly even have her

killed he obeyed when weary he obeyed

when unsure he obeyed when confused Mary

received this visit from Gabriel she

didn’t say I don’t understand this is

going to ruin my life

this is too hard for me he said she said

so be it they were warned they were

tired they traveled they moved around

they had this baby they didn’t

understand then suddenly the miracle

took place the key element to the

miracle that happened over and over and

over was obedience what if Mary did not

obey what if Mary did not trust what if

Mary resented what happened what if Mary

resented being moved around what if Mary

resented that there was no place for her

to have her baby clean and comfortable

and even possibly with support of family

and other people the door slammed in

their face says she was great with the

child there’s no room here you won’t

have a baby you want to make a mess go

in there the Bartman the haze clean in

there nobody’s in there going in there

and they went and Joseph honored her

protected her took care of her he obeyed

and with obedience the miracle of the

took place thus fulfilling all of the

messages from the prophets all of the

words of old that the religious Jews

they all knew and he fulfilled promise

message pointing to this child born of a

virgin

spotless lamb here to save us all I want

to say a couple of things our Savior our

King our Messiah his first breath of

life was the smell of manure of the barn

the majestic king came as humble as they

can come no fanfare no bells and

whistles just two poor people who chose

to obey and they got connected to the

greatest miracle of mankind many of us

are waiting on a miracle are waiting on

an answer waiting on a vision waiting to

understand purpose back up the tape back

up the clock a little bit and start

watching for your own obedience day

after day day after day day after day

remain in obedience remain pure remain

holy obey God’s Word

do what you should

do what gods told you do what God has

revealed to you obey his word

Joseph traveled mile after mile step

after step Mary traveled step after step

mile after mile fatigue and exhaustion

upon them and they remained in obedience

many ministries you’re feeling so tired

you’re waiting for that moment but may I

encourage you that at your moment of

exhaustion at your moment of obedience

when you feel that you’re completely

alone and no one is noticing what you’re

doing nobody is seeing how hard you’re

trying nobody’s seeing you’re suffering

that you’ve run out of money or you’ve

just begged for some help doesn’t

anybody see what we’re doing here in

this ministry does anybody see my heart

that I want to accomplish such-and-such

for God where is God where is my miracle

where is my moment

step in line in obedience and when
16:53
you’ve given all and when you’ve done

all and you’ve obeyed all that’s when

our God steps in and gives you the touch

of the miracle it never comes it never

arrives unless we have been obedient in

our actions obedient in our speech and

obedient in our faith never doubting

Joseph didn’t say I don’t think so I

don’t understand this I’m not he may

have said I don’t understand that that

may be fair he may have said privately

you know we don’t have all the family

conversations we don’t have those things

in the story we have what’s vital what’s

vital is he obeyed

at the end of your life or after people

are not going to hear all your extra

details they’re gonna hear the simple

she obeyed heal bade she honored

he honored she gave he gave they gave

all they served all oh the miracle you

wouldn’t believe what happened you

wouldn’t believe they may not tell the

story of the nights that you wept on

your pillow and I’m sure there was

nights of weeping for Joseph and Mary

they were ordinary people but they made

the extraordinary decision to obey and

that is the months the minutes the

moments before the miracle

remain obedient and never give up

because that is what God is looking for

not a perfect vessel but a willing

vessel not a smart and intelligent and

knowledgeable vessel but an obedient

vessel he doesn’t care how much you know

he doesn’t know how many doesn’t carry
