The Eagle, the Snake, the Wind, and the Candle – Rachel Adamus

Rachel Adamus

The Eagle, the Snake, the Wind, and the Candle

I was lying in bed and unable to sleep, and the Lord put two vivid images in my mind. First, I saw an eagle soaring and calling, high above the ground, among the cliffs. I focused in on its talons, and the Lord said, “I will make you to prey upon the wicked and to dash them to pieces like pottery! Though now you are being preyed upon, yet very soon, you will cut down all those who forsake me.”
Next, I had a vision of a large snake slithering up to my ear. I could practically feel its forked tongue and hear it hissing. I knew it was the devil. I asked, “How did you get in here, considering that I am being protected by God and surrounded by His angels?” And he answered me, “God let me in.” “Why did God let you in?? You have no place here!” “God let me in because He knew you had power over me, for He has given you power to trample me and cut me to pieces, and even my bite cannot harm you.” Now whether this was an actual conversation with the devil, I cannot say, but certainly he is only allowed to do and say what God commands of him!
After this, I heard three times in my spirit to get up. I started to doubt, whether it was actually God speaking to me. I lay there for some time longer, and my husband had a bad dream and said aloud, “The candle is cold!” I answered, “You’re having a bad dream!” And he said, “No, my fingers, my fingers.” I grabbed his hands. His fingers were cupped together as if holding a candle. I told him it was alright. Then he rolled over and went back to sleep. I started feeling something of a terror over me. Then I heard in my spirit that God was not pleased with me. I asked Him why, and He said, “Did I not tell you to get up?” I had to confess my unbelief. After I got up, the door banged from the wind, and I was startled. I was continuing to feel frightened, and I once again saw the snake in my spirit. He taunted me. I commanded him to leave in the name of Jesus; I spoke truth about the redemption of Christ’s blood over me. Then I was at peace and began to pray. I asked the Lord, “Lord, why is it so windy outside? ” He replied, “My daughter, write this down. My Spirit is in the wind. I am moving now! I am doing a great thing among you, my people! I will never leave you nor forsake you! Consider the eagle, how it soars above the heights, so also by my Spirit I will make you to soar. You will rise above all that is coming upon the earth. You will trample all the evil, you will destroy serpents, you will shine brightly for my name! For some, the wind blows out the light. For some, who have despised my Spirit and who have thought that they could do Christianity on their own, they will be surprised to be cold, for they were trying to hold my light in their own hands by their own strength, yet my true light comes upon them and is not held by any man or his power. Their light will go out, their warmth will wax cold. When the winds of my Spirit blow, He lights some and snuffs out others (those who are lukewarm)–thus says the LORD, Jehovah, the Almighty who does what pleases Him! Ah, my bride, no longer will you grow tired or weary. Your power no man will fathom, for it will not be by your power that you act but by mine. People will see you and think they look upon mere morals, but I give my Spirit to whom I please, to jars of clay, to flesh and blood, to those who through weakness exhibit my strength! I am the LORD!”
Matthew 25:5-13: “As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
Lord God, what does it look like to be given your Spirit? “Some will speak in tongues; others will prophecy; some will dream dreams; some will have visions; and all will know me, from the least to the greatest, says the LORD. Those with my Spirit will seek me and find me, for they will seek me with all their hearts. My Spirit gives an insatiable hunger for my Word and for knowing me. He gives the fear of the LORD. He gives a mighty hunger to obey my will. He gives power to fulfill my commands. He is the wind within your souls, the force of all you do, the driving power of all your thoughts, the wisdom of all your ways. Do not give credence to any other myth, that you can possibly have my Spirit and also follow your own ideas and wisdom. If you follow your carnal mind, you will grieve my Spirit, says the LORD. Therefore, fear me all you who are great and small! Fear the LORD! I am moving, I am moving, do not doubt it! Stand up and see the salvation of your God!”
Before going back to bed, the Lord put this poem in my heart:
Trust in the LORD; walk not your own way,
Live by the Spirit His Word to obey.
Seek Him for wisdom, seek Him for life,
Seek Him for counsel, that Word for your might.
Ask Him to save you from fleshly pursuits,
Ask Him to lead you from self-guided routes.
Cling to His promises, never to doubt,
Even when storms of emotion would rout.
Hope in His master plan, trust in His end.
Speak of the victory, all sorrows to mend.
Oh never doubt, never slip, never sway
From the great Gospel of Glory today!
Luke 17:5-6: “The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith!’ And the Lord said, ‘If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it would obey you.'”
Matthew 17:14-20: “And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, said, ‘Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.’ And Jesus answered, ‘O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.’ And Jesus rebuked the demon, and itcame out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, ‘Why could we not cast it out?’ He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.'”
Luke 10:19: “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
Isaiah 40:31: “…but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
John 3:8: “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Acts 19:6: “And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.”
Hebrews 8:11: “And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.”
1 Corinthians 2:13: “And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”
Jeremiah 31:31-34: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Joel 2:28: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.”
Proverbs 8:17: “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.”
Jeremiah 29:13: “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Psalm 69:29-36: “But I am afflicted and in pain;
let your salvation, O God, set me on high!
I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the LORD more than an ox
or a bull with horns and hoofs.
When the humble see it they will be glad;
you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the LORD hears the needy

and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.

Let heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will save Zion

and build up the cities of Judah,

and people shall dwell there and possess it;
the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,
and those who love his name shall dwell in it.”
