The LORD of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand (Isaiah 14:24)
19 For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21 And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23 But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand.
24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.” (Mark 13:19-37)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today is September 24, 2018. Recently, I received a letter from a kind woman expressing a question about how to pray when the Lord has had me warn of destruction for so long and yet nothing has happened, yet.
I hear this question or similar quite often. Frankly, within my own flesh, a similar question rises up, and I feel scoffing come up within myself. The thought, ‘nothing is going to happen’ comes to me, too. I’ve felt that discouragement particularly strong in the last few days.
As I prayed about this, Jesus told me this, ‘the whole point of a warning is that the event hasn’t happened yet.’ He also told me, “do not look for an excuse to give up.”
That may seem like an obvious and simple statement, but it’s profound and serious. I needed to hear that word from the Lord. The Holy Spirit refreshed me and pulled down my scoffing flesh.
Throughout the Scripture we see the Lord’s mercy displayed as He warns of what He is going to do, both in incredible blessing such as salvation coming in Jesus Christ, and in destruction for unrepentant sin. The Lord has perfect purposes for warnings. I cannot begin to understand all that the Lord does, but He has told us certain reasons for His warnings.
In Isaiah 14:24 and Mark 13:31, we are reminded that the Lord’s plans are set. His word will be fulfilled precisely as He has spoken. He assures us of this and has shown it to be so thousands of times throughout the Scripture.
In Mark 13:23, Jesus tells us that He has told us what is coming ahead of time so that we will be on guard, awake, prepared. This is a gracious thing! The Lord gives us what is needed so our faith in Him is set when the storm comes. He prepares our hearts and minds ahead of time so that we are not shaken or taken in by false prophets and deception of peace and security.
Jesus gave me Mark 13 as I prayed to Him regarding this wave of discouragement. As I listened to His word, He pointed out His repeated warning in this passage for us to be on guard and stay awake. Jesus doesn’t say something as filler. He has precise purposes for every word He speaks. When He repeats the warning for us to be on guard and stay awake, it has an implication that our tendency or temptation will be to fall asleep, stop watching, doubt and scoff.
Currently, there is an increase in prophetic warnings. The Lord is speaking through so many to warn of coming destruction. Repent while it is today! Turn to Jesus today! Time is short. Destruction is coming. These messages are coming every day from many different brothers and sisters in the Lord.
The flip side of that is that there is also an increase in the scoffers. They call out, ‘where is this destruction?’ They wait in the wings with threats of, ‘if nothing happens by such and such a date, I’m going to quit listening, watching, believing.’
This is such a tragic commentary on the condition of their heart. I speak this to myself when doubt comes up in me. Discouragement pulls my eyes away from Jesus. It splashes water on the fire of the faith He has given me. It pulls down the sense of urgency and expectancy of Jesus’ return. It lures me toward daily routines and worldly plans. So many things pull us toward falling asleep.
In Mark 13 and other passages about the end days, Jesus tells us to watch, to stay awake to be on guard, to endure. All these commands imply a time of waiting for something that hasn’t happened. But it will happen. Suddenly, in a moment.
Each thing the Lord has planned will come about at precisely the moment He has planned. We are not in a delay nor a reprieve. We are in the midst of the Lord fulfilling His plans.
Scoffing and thinking ‘if this doesn’t happen by such and such then I give up’ and all the other ways our flesh tries to pull is away from Jesus are put down when we stay in the word of God and let Him minister to our heart.
Let us be careful that we do not accuse Jesus of being a liar. His word will come to pass. Nothing will be omitted.
As some of you know, the Lord typically gives me visions and words. It is a very rare thing for Him to give me a dream. Recently, He gave me dream showing:
• war
• prophesied events happening
• believers watching His word and the events for fulfillment
• a false preacher from youtube
• the month of September
• the name John Shorey
The only rare thing was that it was a dream. The Lord has often given me someone’s name either as someone to pray for or as someone to whom He will send me with a word.
Some people have sensed the interpretation of this dream to be that America will be attacked in September. Some have said a ‘kick ‘off’ event will happen in September that sets in motion a series of destruction events.
As I have sought the Lord about this dream, He has told me this:
• finish preparing the things He’s told me to do in the physical
• Continue to seek Him for the refining work within my heart
• Pray for those who do not know Jesus
• Be bold with preaching His Gospel
• Be watchful!
• Deception will increase
• Prophetic events will be lined up around the world
• A significant sign will occur, but we must be watchful to see it
• I am not to counter the interpretation that America will be attacked, or a kickoff event will happen. I am to ‘leave it be.’
Brothers and sisters, Jesus is coming soon. However, first there is going to be great tribulation and the saints go through persecution. Jesus will be with us. Judgement on many nations is coming, including the USA. Events in the Middle East will line up perfectly with what the Scripture says. War is coming. Famine is coming. Pestilence is coming. Great earthquakes will continue. Fierce storms from the sea will continue. It is a perilous time when people will not want Jesus. Many will turn away from Him. Be on guard! Stay awake! Keep your eyes on Jesus. Do not look for an excuse to give up. Hold fast to Jesus.
