A darkness is approaching

During Bible study and meditation, the Lord gave a disturbing scene. I saw many Christians in a straight line, all facing left from my perspective. As I watched them, a darkness began to overtake them and many shrank backwards. Some stood their ground and did not move as much as others, but some I could no longer see. All seemed to be affected by this darkness to one degree or another.
Interpretation:
A darkness is approaching, not only the church but the world, for this darkness was as a wave of blackness that suppressed anything in its way. The Christians that stood their ground were not afraid of the dark and had strength to stand. Others simply faded away.
I am reminded of the Scriptures:
John 9:4I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.
Psalm 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.
1 Thessalonians 5:2For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10a[ The Day of the Lord ] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat;
Amos 5:18-19
18 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord!
For what good is the day of the Lord to you?
It will be darkness, and not light.
19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion,
And a bear met him!
Or as though he went into the house,
Leaned his hand on the wall,
And a serpent bit him!
Joel 2:1-3
The Day of the Lord
2 Blow the [a]trumpet in Zion,
And sound an alarm in My holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
For the day of the Lord is coming,
For it is at hand:
2 A day of darkness and gloominess,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
Like the morning clouds spread over the mountains.
A people come, great and strong,
The like of whom has never been;
Nor will there ever be any such after them,
Even for many successive generations.
Ex 10:21 ¶ Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, darkness which may even be felt.”

I believe this to be a spiritual darkness, sent by the forces of the enemy.
