What Is Revival?

My people are all abuzz, claiming that revival is breaking out in the land. They see the knee jerk response to my servant Charlie’s death, and, like lemmings, are all hopping on the bandwagon, desiring to start chapters in every place.
While these things are commendable and good and proper, does that indicate biblical revival? Or is this the current ‘hot topic’ in social media, with everyone tripping over one another in order not to be left out of the latest thing? Shall we see the same level of fervency three, six, or twelve months from now? Time will tell.
But is it revival? Do my children even know anymore what revival truly is? When was the last real revival in the west, especially in America? Can you tell me? Would there be any agreement, or would I receive as many answers as there are sects in the body?
Remember Asheville? Remember how many were proclaiming revival at that time? But what occurred? Did it last? No, it did not. And why is that? Because they based their ‘revival’ on something other than the true requirements. They sang and worshipped and praised and basked, and all that is good. But is it revival?
There is only one narrow path to revival. Just one. It cannot occur because one is overcome with emotion. It does not occur because people gather together and start singing. Nor does it occur due to a sudden flush of patriotism, or nationalism, or conservatism. No ‘ism’ will trigger revival. As noble and just as some of those things are, they are not revival.
So, what is revival?
Revival occurs when a group of individuals suddenly have their eyes opened. Their eyes are opened to the truth of their actual spiritual condition. It is not a revelation of how special man is. Nor is it an understanding of just how much God loves them. It is nothing that is man centered. In fact, it is the complete opposite.
Some preach that man must be very special and precious indeed, for God to pay such a price to redeem them by sending his only begotten son to die on their behalf. This misses the entire point. Has my church become so biblically illiterate, that they cannot even recall the teachings of the book of Romans? Have you not read where it says that for a righteous man some would die, and perhaps even for a good man some might die?
But God died for sinners. And what does this mean? That you all were not worthy to be saved. There was nothing in you that was desirable, or praiseworthy. Grace means that divine favor and salvation was extended to the thoroughly corrupt. Grace and mercy was given to those who had nothing to offer in return. There was nothing good within any of you. You weren’t special in any way. You were all worthless, ready for the dung heap. You were all headed towards an eternity of torment and flame, and justly so. You had nothing to offer me, nor could you ever hope to escape your rightful doom.
But God, being rich in grace and mercy, chose to redeem you. And he chose to redeem you in the most costly way imaginable. Who would ever envision that the Father would actually send his only son to die a terrible, humiliating death by the hands of those whom he was to save? Who could imagine such a thing?
Revival only occurs when a person, a people, or a nation comes to the realization of how hopelessly vile and worthless they are. That every breath they take, every action they do, is nothing but sin in the sight of a holy God. When they realize their corruption is so complete, so final, and so desperate, that they have no hope of ever being reconciled to their Father. That every thought, every imagination of their hearts beat out sin, sin, and more sin, and nothing but sin. That their rebellion and their wretchedness reaches as high as the heavens, and as low as the abyss. That there is no way out.
Once they come to that realization, and then the light of the true gospel dawns in their hearts, then, and only then, is the seed of revival able to be sown.
But who today preaches such things? Who today has the guts to speak this inescapable truth? Who is willing to offend the whole world, and lose their entire congregations, in order to rightly present the everlasting gospel to the masses? Where shall I find such a one?
No, instead they focus on my love. They try and woo them with the softest sell. Or they try to appeal to them to stand for righteousness, as they witness the evil about to overwhelm their land.
Many now realize that there is something very wrong in the land. The murder of Charlie Kirk has awakened many as to how perilous a position their culture has fallen into. So many have awakened to righteousness. To patriotism. To nationalism. To a conservative point of view. While all of these things are right and good, that is not revival.
Do they yet recognize their own spiritual state? Do they yet see the wretchedness of their own heart? Or is the wickedness of the wicked all they see? In other words, do they still see themselves as righteous because they compare themselves to the evildoers that are bent on destroying your land?
This is why one must never compare oneself to others. You will always find justification for your sinfulness, should you look to others, and not to me.
My standards never change. I demand perfection. You may embrace the zeal and fervency of your nation’s greatest patriots, but revival shall not be found there. You may support those I have placed in charge, and do many righteous deeds, but revival will not appear there either.
No, only when you begin to realize just how lost and undone you truly are, can genuine revival occur. When you grasp the true nature of grace that opens the door to my Spirit. When you place your pride in your nation and in your patriots well behind your acknowledgement of your own woeful spiritual condition, then you have opened the door to true revival.
Revival is all about placing the gospel above all else. It is an acknowledgement that everything of this earth, that you so strive and fret over, is as nothing in comparison to the kingdom of God. It is the eternal rescuing of the lost. It is snatching as many souls from hellfire as possible, rather than the snatching of deceived minds from communism, or liberalism, or any other ‘ism’.
While your nations have experienced ‘movements’, when was the last time you truly experienced genuine revival? And if you cannot recall, then tell me when was the last time the genuine gospel was preached, in its fulness? When was the last time that the stark reality of hell and judgment and the sinner’s utter hopelessness was communicated to the people? Without the preaching of the gospel, how shall they know? And how shall they be saved?
So be grateful for everyone who is being awakened to righteousness. Only beware that all must be led to a revelation of their utter sinfulness, and worthlessness, in the eyes of a holy God, so that they too may be gloriously saved, in the manner that I demand in my word. To restore a Christian culture is not enough. While vital, my people must be willing to boldly confront the lost, and let them know that it is all for nought, if they do not flee from the wrath to come.
So repent. Repent of your wicked ways. Stop at nothing until you arrive at the foot of the cross. Flee to the blood and the cross. Don’t stop until you have made it safely across.
May the blood of the Lamb wash your eyes so that you may truly see, one more time, before the end of all things.
