The ‘Psychiatric’ Bank Account

In a dream vision, the Holy Spirit took me inside the branch of a bank. Before me, I saw a middle-aged woman trying to discuss a problem she had accessing her account and doing transactions. I knew this person to be an outspoken woman of faith and a lover of freedom and the truth. After the bank teller looked up the woman’s account, the teller said awkwardly, “Your account is now in the psychiatric classification. You’ll have to contact this other bank representative to discuss your problem. I can’t help you. This is outside of my purview.”

When I awoke from this dream vision, I asked the Holy Spirit for clarification. What in the world was a ‘psychiatric’ bank account status? Then the Holy Spirit reminded me of how just in the last century, in Communist and totalitarian states, political and religious dissidents and the uncooperative were often designated as mentally unfit—a practice known as the political abuse of psychiatry or punitive psychiatry. As such, these people (if not killed) were sometimes institutionalized for rehabilitation and reprogramming, often losing custody of their possessions and accounts to the guardianship of the state. The Holy Spirit also reminded me of China’s current social credit system and how aspects of it would eventually be adopted and implemented across the world, including in our own nation, celebrated in “The Star-Spangled Banner” as “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Thank you, Lord God, for your watchful warnings to your people. May we not be ashamed to be perceived by the world as fools for Christ. May you impart your true wisdom to us and strengthen our faith that we may be faithful until the very end. Help us to run the race and finish it.
