The Perilous Journey Dream

Last night I dreamed once again. This time I was preparing to go on a trip. It was one where I would be flying overseas to a far country. I believe it was a holiday trip. Both my wife and I were slated to go.
It was the day before our plane departed, and I was packing, trying to get ready. For some reason, I was packing alone, and my wife was engaged in something else, perhaps doing her own packing, but I was not sure. I was supposed to be making arrangements to head out to the airport the next day, but somehow I ended up waiting by myself at a certain lonely place out in the country. I didn’t even bring my phone, as I had arranged some way to get to where my dad was, who would then take me to the airport. This was strange, as my dad had been dead for many years.
As I was waiting, a vehicle pulled up. Out came a family of a husband and wife, a couple of kids, and a dog and a cat. The wife was very, very talkative. She kept talking nonstop, and I was not able to get a word in response. She went over to a rather large mail drop off box and opened it. She then started to pull out boxes of stuff, which I understood was their baggage. As this was occurring, the cat had gotten a hold of my pant leg and dug it’s claws into my leg in a painful manner, distracting me, as I focused on it looking into my eyes.
The next thing I knew was that I was sitting in the middle of their vehicle, scrunched between all the family members. Apparently I had agreed to let them give me a ride to my dad’s house, and I assumed they were going in that direction, though I specifically do not remember agreeing to do so.
As we travelled, the woman kept up a nonstop patter. However I cannot recall even one specific word that she ever said. It was now getting late in the day, so I thought I better check in with dad and try to see how we would hook up. This was when I realized that I had not brought my cell phone, though I had assumed that there would be plenty of time to get back to my place and finish packing before it was time to fly away.
I began to get nervous and asked the family where we were. At that time, we were driving through a small town, so we stopped and asked what town this was. The people laughed and said the town’s name. While I cannot remember the specific name anymore, I knew in my dream that it was a town that I had never heard of, and that I had no idea where this family had driven me. I asked the family where I was and what I was supposed to do, and now they were silent. I now knew that I was truly lost. I did not know what to do. Then I woke up.
I believe the dream represents our spiritual journey in these end times. Our destination is heaven, a far off place that some day we will fly away to. Some of us will be given a special nudge in our hearts to get ready. We will begin to pack and make preparations.
However, the dream shows us that the devil will send many pitfalls and dangers as we prepare. First of all, I knew that both my wife and I were to prepare together. But suddenly I found myself preparing alone, with no idea why this was so. I believe this was warning number one. Ensure that you pay attention to your spouse, and make every effort to prepare together spiritually, and don’t lose track of each other, as far as it depends on you. Being the head of the home, the responsibility did fall upon me, but suddenly, for some unknown reason, I found myself packing alone.
Next, I was in some lonely place, waiting for some unknown conveyance to take me someplace to someone who had been dead for a long time. This represents three errors. First, how did I not know how I was where I was, and how did I not know the way I would get to my next destination? This represents so many believers who really do not know the Word. They cannot explain what they believe, or why they believe it. This leaves them vulnerable to other voices, that may lead them astray.
It is very late in the day. For far too long, many believers have neglected the serious study of God’s word. As this age of deceit grows darker and darker, those who do not really know the word, as a real, personal, divine revelation in their hearts, will find themselves standing in the middle of nowhere, not sure how they got there, having only a vague idea of where they should go next, and fair game to anyone coming by and speaking a compelling, seductive message.
Second, why was I wanting to go and see my dad, which would apparently take me well out of the way to where I was really going, and who was dead and gone so many years? This can represent more than one thing.
Perhaps your path has gotten tough. Maybe your spouse, or someone dear, has suddenly disappeared from the scene. Maybe your circumstances are causing you to fear and become anxious. You long for the familiar. So you return to your past.
My dead father can represent the comforts of dead, traditional religion. Nothing changes there, nothing ever happens. It is safe and familiar, but it is dead. Or, it can represent going back to some old sin, some old habit. This too, leads to nothing but death.
Third, I was idling about in a strange place all alone. Why had I cut myself off from all help? I had no one to bounce off ideas, there was no one I could ask for confirmation that I was even in the right place, and going down the correct path. We all need some solid fellowship with like-minded believers, especially in these last days, where so much deception and temptation abounds.
Because I had somehow lost touch with my closest companion, because I was in a strange place, because I was alone, one could almost predict what would invariably happen next – the devil shows up. And sure enough, there he came. But not in the form of some evil monster, or some threatening foe. No, he showed up all benign and innocent. He took the form of a normal family. All the boxes were checked – there was a husband, a wife, two kids, a dog, a cat, and a car.
It appeared that he had come to help! They saw I was confused and perhaps a little uncertain. The main impression of this encounter was the non stop talking by the woman! I never once heard the man speak. I did not even get a look at him, though I knew he was there. He drove the vehicle, and simply did whatever the woman said.
Several truths to unpack here. First, the devil confuses and overwhelms us with his non stop verbiage. She just did not shut up! I had no time to think, no opportunity to respond. (As an aside, sounds like our mainstream media today, doesn’t it!) But while she talked, the cat distracted me, even painfully, by clawing at my pant leg.
Suddenly, I found myself in the midst of their family, in their car. At first, it even seemed that they were going in the proper direction.
I believe this family represents the current Laodicean church of the west, and all the false prophets and teachers therein. Note how benign they looked! They appeared to be good Samaritans. They seemed like they were going to get me to where I wanted to go.
But did you notice that the woman did all the talking? Not only does this represent the false usurpation of leadership in the churches by the woman, which was never God’s will, but it can also represent false leadership in general. As women were never called to lead the body of Christ, so these false pastors and preachers were never called of God either.
These lukewarm churches provide many distractions. Like the cat, they draw your attention away from what is being actually said. I could not remember a single word that woman said, especially while the cat dug its claws into my pant leg, and I was focused on it. The woman pulling out her baggage from the mail box represents all the heavy baggage religion brings along and heaps upon the adherent. It contributed to the lack of space I had in the car.
The feeling of compression that I had in the vehicle is the feeling of suffocation that man-made denominations place upon the believer’s spirits. They choke the life out of you, and you are not able to move.
Starting out on a familiar road is how these churches trap your souls. At the outset, the path looks good, even familiar. You may have even said the sinner’s prayer, and began on the right road. As they talk and talk, and distract and distort, one day you wake up and realize that nothing looks familiar. You are on a strange road. As you reach for your cell phone, which represents the Holy Spirit, as he is supposed to be the means of communication between our Father in heaven and ourselves, you realize it is not there! False religion has stolen the life of the Spirit out of your soul. You come to realize that you have no oil in your lamp.
You got in that vehicle because you were okay with someone taking you somewhere to a place that contained nothing but dead man’s bones, even as I was willing to go to a place where my dead father was. Not only do you need to examine the path you are on, but what destination are you hoping to reach? Do you want to attain prominence in your local church? Are you striving towards dead works, or to do the will of the living God? As almost everyone never leaves home without their cell phone anymore, how much more do we, as end time believers, need to make sure that we never go anywhere without the living, real presence of the Spirit of God!
If you do not take heed to the warnings, you will find yourself in a strange town, where the citizens will mock you and make fun of you. Nothing pleases the devil more than capturing one who started to walk with Jesus, then foolishly let himself be captured until finally he was so completely lost that he had no idea where to go or what to do next.
I believe that this is the main warning of this dream. What started off with excitement over flying off to heaven, ended up in a terrifying location, where all was lost, and only mocking enemies were to be found.
Take heed to yourselves. The days ahead will be full of traps and snares for the unwary. Now is not the time to pretend that all is well. There are so many warnings about turning back, and not completing the course. I leave you with some of the most dire warnings contained in the word of God, so we can all learn to fear the Lord more perfectly.
May God bless you all as we head into unknown waters.
