Last night I had a dream. This dream was different than any other dream I have ever had. I have stated in the past that a dream from the Lord involves a previous residence. This one did involve a house. Although it seemed most like the house I lived in when I spent my teenage years in a small town, it also felt like the house represented a combination of all the places I have lived.

In this dream, I was in a car travelling at a high rate of speed in the country. Other people were in the car with me, but I did not know who they were. I was not driving the car. We were approaching a highway from a perpendicular direction. The piece of highway in front of me was straight, but a little distance ahead it curved sharply away, and it seemed to be a familiar highway that would lead to the small town I grew up in.

But we were travelling far too fast to make the sharp left turn to get on the highway, though that was my immediate desire. Instead we flew right over the highway, and immediately a sense of sheer terror enveloped me, as I was convinced that we were going to perish. I knew there were great obstacles on this other side of the highway, such as a thick forest. I was certain we were going to crash.

But we continued at a high rate of speed through whatever obstacles were out there. I could not see what they actually were. But strangely, no harm came to me. We kept barrelling straight ahead at a high rate of speed, hitting nothing, but unable to see anything.

Suddenly, I found the car had somehow made it into the house. It came to a gentle stop completely within the house. I had no idea how it came through the walls without doing any damage. I was completely unharmed.

The strangest part then occurred. Suddenly I knew that the Lord had delivered me as I barrelled through what was a place of certain danger. The feeling of praise and gratitude was as nothing that I’ve ever experienced before. I kept praising and praising him for getting me to what I knew was a place of safety. It was the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced in a dream.

Then I woke up.

The interpretation is as follows. As in all my previous dreams from the Lord, one of my previous places of residences are always part of the dream. I also remember the dream after I awake, and it does not fade away quickly, as a normal dream does.

The high speed of the car represents the fact that end time events are moving at a faster and faster pace. I felt like I had no control, nor say, in the car’s speed. That indicates that we are not in control of what is going on, no matter how hard we try to influence events by our own actions.

The unknown people in the car represents the fact that we do not know who will end up travelling with us in these end times. As we’ve seen, people whom we thought were on our side have been deceived and fallen away, while others whom we did not expect have stepped up to the plate.

The curved highway ahead represented what seemed like the safe course of action to the natural mind. It was a familiar road that would take me to a familiar place. It was paved and smooth. My first instinct was to want to leave this open country travel and get on that safe path.

But to get onto that broad highway, I would have to leave my narrow path. The nice pavement that looked so straight to begin with would very soon curve away from the truth. While the road looked familiar and bore resemblance to the road that had led me to a safe destination in the past, yet I could sense something was not quite what it looked like. Thus the feeling of familiarity, but not certainty and knowing.

The fact that the highway was perpendicular to the direction I was travelling indicates that our own understanding is often at cross purposes to where God is leading us. What looks right in our own eyes is really heading in a different direction than where God wants to take us.

That we kept barrelling over the highway and straight into the unknown on the other side represents the straight and narrow path that the Lord wants us to stay on. The fact that I could not see what was on the other side of the highway indicates that none of us really knows what trials await us in the immediate future, only that they are arriving very quickly.

The feeling of sheer terror, combined with the fact that I could not see where I was headed, represents the temptation to fear which the devil brings to our life when we choose to walk in faith.

God does not want us to drive our own car. He wants us to keep moving straight ahead, even though a safer path appears in front of us. We wants us to overcome and endure the terror that this end time journey is sure to bring. He wants us to trust him as he plunges us into the unknown. He also wants us to sit still and endure the fear while we hurtle unimaginable and unknown terrors ahead. He wants us not to be alarmed if the most fearful test occurs at the end of our lives, as the reward is just beyond this one last frightening journey.

The fact that the house seemed to represent a combination of all houses I had previously dwelt in means that all your life experiences were necessary to arrive at the final safe destination. Those things both good and bad, those experiences that made sense, and those things that you would like to forget. The Lord uses all things to enable you to arrive at this ‘safe house’ at the end of your journey.

The fact that I ended up safely inside my house, or a house that represented all the places that I have dwelt, represents the confidence we should have that God will keep his promises to us. The fact that the house was sort of a combination of all my places of residence indicates that God will keep all of his promises to us, not just one or two.

The transition from sheer terror to absolute calmness and peace indicates that God has a place of refuge for us, if we endure the storm first. It also represents our final reward, or our final destination, where all terror finally ceases. The fact that I was suddenly safe inside the house, without having any idea how I had passed through the walls of the house, represents the mystery of death – the passing through from one side to the other. No man knows exactly how that works, at least not from this side of eternity. Only when we have passed through to the other side will all be made clear.

The experience of praising and thanking God at a level never before experienced represents our new life that is waiting for us on the other side. This experience was unlike anything that I had experienced before, and is hard to put into words. This represents the fact that our new lives in Christ when we have completed our journey down here will be unlike anything we have experienced up until now. It is not possible to describe it in terms that we can grasp while yet in the body.

In summary, the Lord is telling us that events are now speeding up. We will be taken on a ride where we will not be in control, at a speed that will seem terrifying. We will have chances to choose a safer path. We will travel with companions unknown to us. We will be asked to take the plunge into the unknown. We will then have to endure while terror attempts to swallow us up. But suddenly, we will find ourselves through the danger, and in a place of total safety and calm. Praise and gratitude shall well up as a spring that will overflow our souls.

Endure whatever comes your way, and a great reward awaits at the end of your journey.
