The church has forsaken God

And he said unto them, take nothing for your journey, neither staves, not scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. Luke 9:3

Not so for today’ evangelist, pastor or preacher. Today it means a mansion, a Learjet, or two, thousand dollar sneakers and a Rolex watch. Paying for the privilege to see the “man of god”– to be entertained, calling it church millions bow down before ‘worldly pomp and temporal greatness’ while the church suffers loss and man remains unchanged, his broken pieces intact.

“These are some of the reasons why the church has lost spiritual power and stands impotent in the presence of sickness and suffering. To hide her feebleness and inefficiency, she takes refuge under the discreditable subterfuge that the gifts of healing have been withdrawn and the age of miracles is past” (or ignored completely as they tout self-help seminars and sell books teaching ‘how to be a better you’.) “No wonder infidelity is eating the heart out of the church of God! Has Jehovah-Rophi, the eternal covenant God, changed? Or, is the modern disciple of a different stamp and pattern than they whom Jesus called in the days of His flesh? Truly, the change is in the disciple and not in the one unchangeable LORD and Master. I find that the old-time power is to be had today by the old-time men who are willing to walk and work and suffer and die to get this gospel of Christ to people everywhere.” John G. Lake – October 1910

The church has forsaken God; leaning on the world, the flesh and yes the devil…she changes  fountains of living waters for broken cisterns that can hold no water. Let us honestly acknowledge our sin and with a broken heart return to the LORD our God. Man in his sin will never change; continuing to serve the kingdoms of darkness his struggle to find the light apart from JESUS Christ remains an exercise in futility– whether in 1910 or 2019.  All things are wearisome, more than one can describe; the eye is not satisfied with seeing nor the ear content with hearing. What has been is what will be, and what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a case where one can say, “Look, this is new?” It has already existed in the ages before us….(The Book of Ecclesiastes)
