There are amazing parallels between the Book of Joshua and the end times, which prophesied what is to come.
Before Joshua took over leadership from an aging Moses, the people of God (The Israelites) had been very disobedient, and God told them that none of the “original generation” who left Egypt would enter the promise land.
The 40 years in the desert represents our times of testing and trials on this earth.
They were forced to wander and survive in the wilderness for 40 years trusting only in God for everything (#40 means a period of testing, trials, and probation). “For the Israelites had wandered in the wilderness forty years, until all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD vowed never to let them see the land He had sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.”– Joshua 5:6
Joshua was then told to lead the people into the promise land, but they came to the Jordan River which was impossible to cross without help from God. But there was first a three-day period of preparation.
These three days of preparation represent the three days of darkness that some will endure before beginning the final battle. The mighty men are those who will be fighting as God’s army and assisting others (144,000).
“Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people: “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you will cross the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land that
the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’ ”– Joshua 1:10-11
“Your wives, your young children, and your livestock may remain in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But all your mighty men of valor must be armed for battle to cross over ahead of your brothers and help them,”– Joshua 1: 14-15
The 12 chosen men represent the 12 tribes and the 144,000 chosen to follow immediately after God (Ark) and before the people through the Jordan. The priest and the 12 tribes (144K) helped all the people of God pass through the tribulation and reached safety on the other side.
They reached the edge of the Jordan, and they were instructed to follow the Ark of the Covenant (God).
“After three days the officers went through the camp and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and follow it…. Now choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—touch down in the waters of the Jordan, its flowing waters will be cut off and will stand up in a heap.”– Joshua 3: 2-3, 12-13
Joshua met with Yeshua to prepare for this final battle, just as Yeshua will meet with the 144,000 end times army.
“Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
“Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as Commander of the LORD’s army.” Then Joshua fell face down in reverence and asked Him, “What does my Lord have to say to His servant?” The Commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.”–Joshua 5:13-1
The battle of Jerico represents the rulers of the world, the wickedness therein, and the final battle before the Kingdom of God comes to the earth. The seven days/times represent the seven years of tribulation.
“Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns. And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout… So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the LORD advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.”– Joshua 6:4-5, 8
The seven priests represent the seven angels and the seven trumpets.
“And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets… So, the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.” — Revelation 8: 2, 6
When the people shout on the last day, after the last trumpet, it represents when Jesus comes down from heaven with a shout.
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:16
Only Rahab and her family were spared from destruction because she honored the messengers of the Lord, she kept her oath, and she hung a scarlet cord outside of her window (representing her putting sin away and showing her faith in her salvation). It is also suggested that the scarlet cord represents the blood of Jesus.
“The men said to her, “We will not be bound by this oath you made us swear unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother and brothers and all your family into your house. If anyone goes out the door of your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head, and we will be innocent. But if a hand is laid on anyone with you in the house, his blood will be on our heads. And if you report our mission, we will be released from the oath
you made us swear.”
“Let it be as you say,” she replied, and she sent them away. And when they had gone, she tied the scarlet cord in the window.”– Joshua 2: 17-21
The fall of Jericho represents the worldly kingdoms falling, and the whole earth will be destroyed.
“So when the rams’ horns sounded, the people shouted. When they heard the blast of the horn, the people gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed. Then all the people charged straight into the city and captured it. At the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city—man and woman, young and old, oxen, sheep, and donkeys.”– Joshua 6:20-21
“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death,
nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”–Revelation 21-1-4
