“Therefore, say to the Israelites, ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from the burdens of Egypt and deliver you from being slaves to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of righteousness. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who frees you from the burdens of Egypt.’”

Exodus 6:6-7

“Then he said to them, ‘I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.’”

Luke 22:15

On Passover night, Jews traditionally place four cups. These four cups represent four proclamations:

1. The Cup of Sanctification: “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.”

Jesus Christ, through His sacrifice, redeemed us from the heavy yoke of sin and offers us His yoke (Matthew 11:28-30).

2. The Cup of Liberation or Judgment: I will rescue you from its bondage.

The Lord tells us through His word:

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

1 Peter 2:9

He tells us how the Lord brought us out of the darkness of sin and the world and its bondage through His blood and sacrifice. Jesus is the one who protects us from the wrath to come (1 Thessalonians 1:10).
