Testimony: Covered by the Blood of Jesus

Several years ago, one morning as I was praying and speaking to Jesus, I told Him I wanted some clarity on what it meant to be covered by His blood and made white as snow. I had not been raised in a culture that did sacrificial offerings as was done in the traditional Jewish culture of Jesus’s time. So the concept of Jesus offering himself as a blood sacrifice for the remission of sin was odd to me, and to be completely honest, a bit abhorrent. As a Christian, I had been told in scripture that I was covered by Jesus’s blood, but this idea was sometimes strange to me, and did not always feel real. Though I drank the wine and grape juice of the Eucharist—“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28)—in my mind, I sometimes doubted I truly was covered by Jesus’s blood. So that morning, I asked Jesus to confirm to me that I was covered by His blood, so I could understand this fact better and no longer doubt its reality.
Later that same morning, I entered a diner for brunch as I waited for my car to be worked on. The diner had recently been renovated, and its menu was more gourmet, featuring specialty and vegetarian items. While I sat at a booth and waited for my food to arrive, I opened my Bible and began to read. Not long into my reading, in the peripheral vision of my left eye, I noticed a waiter walking down the aisle with a tray on his arm.
As the waiter came close to my table, he suddenly tripped. The tray and its contents—an opened red-purple bottle and an empty glass—went flying up into the air! The plastic bottle whirled around and its contents sprayed like a drizzle or mist all over my booth. Marking my Bible, my table, and my clothing were hundreds of tiny dark red dots. Apologizing profusely, the waiter hastened to collect the fallen bottle, glass and tray. He offered to get me soda water to help get the stains out of my clothing.
When I looked at the hundreds of dark red dots all over me and my clothing, I realized that I had received an unequivocal answer to that very morning’s prayer. I wasn’t exactly covered, but rather sprinkled in beet juice, which resemble blood enough for me to get the message that I truly had Jesus’s blood upon me.
After picking up my car and returning home to change my beet juice-spattered clothing, I put my shirt and skirt into a cold-water wash. I expected my clothing to be permanently stained, but considered it a price worth paying to receive such a clear answer to my prayer. When the clothes came out of the dryer, to my delight, no stains remained! Jesus had even taken care of that.
Later, when I researched the Day of Atonement, I discovered that on that day, the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies and sprinkle an unblemished sacrificial animal’s blood upon the lid of the Ark of the Covenant, known as the Mercy Seat, to atone for the sins of Israel. In a most memorable and touching way, Jesus had personally assured me that He had sprinkled me with His blood to atone for my sins.
Leviticus 17:11
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.”
Hebrews 9:12
He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
Hebrews 10:22
…let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.
Revelation 5:9
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”
Revelation 7:14
And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
