PSA – Discerning the Spirits

Hello Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I do not have much personal experience with the spiritual gift of prophecy but I do have a lot experience with the spiritual gift of words of knowledge.

Whereas prophecy is about the future, Words of Knowledge (WoK) are about the present and/or the past. Sometimes I’ll be told something about a person. Sometimes the revelations can be quite strong and/or disturbing. I have learned that these WoK are not always true and that I have to be careful. I can’t believe all of what I hear. In 1 John 4:1-3, John tells us how to make sure what we are hearing is from God. We are to test the spirits by asking if Jesus/Yeshua is come/born in the flesh. You should hear/feel an immediate YES! Anything else is not from God. This still happens to me once in a while even after several years of practice. With my inner voice I say, “Did Jesus come in the flesh?” If I hear or feel nothing then I know not to accept that WoK. That can be challenging sometimes especially if the WoK came with any emotional weight.

So, brothers and sisters, please learn the skill of testing the spirits if you wish to make good use of your spiritual gifts.

P.S. God wanted me to add that if you haven’t tested the spirits in the past and you’ve been deceived and you’ve caused others harm by this then … just confess, repent, and ask Him to help you do better. He’s a big god. He can take care of things.
