Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

1 Peter 1:18-19

When I prayed for the upcoming Passover, God asked me: Do you cherish my blood?

I examined the places in the Bible where the word “precious blood” is mentioned. In the entire Bible, the word “precious blood” is only mentioned once, in 1 Peter 1:18-19, referring to “the precious blood of Christ.” Other times it’s used to describe blood, the blood of a lamb, the blood of Jesus, etc. The Greek word for “precious blood” is 05093 τίμιος, α, ον, an adjective meaning extremely valuable, precious, or rare.

“Put off the vain ways passed down from your ancestors”: This refers to being freed from the idolatry and all corrupt practices that displease God, as practiced by your ancestors.

“Not by perishable things such as gold and silver”: These represent worldly wealth, which decays and depreciates.

But the “precious blood of Christ” is priceless, the blood of God.

What is the function of His precious blood?

1. The Precious Blood of Christ Redeems Us.

The first thing is that God redeems us. Jesus’ name, Yeshua, means Jehovah, meaning salvation. He saves us from sin.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

Ephesians 1:7

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Matthew 1:21

But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.

Isaiah 63:16

2. The Precious Blood of Christ Cleanses Us.

May your life be cleansed by His blood, and may your enemies no longer accuse you.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

Ezekiel 36:25

3. The Precious Blood of Christ Justifies Us.

Justification is our reconciliation with God, not because of our works, but because the Father sees the blood of His beloved Son.

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Romans 5:9-10

In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

Jeremiah 23:6

4. The Precious Blood of Christ Sanctifies Us.

Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

Hebrews 13:12

I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. I am the Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; so be holy, because I am holy.

Leviticus 11:44-45

5. The precious blood of Christ grants us

forgiveness.

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Hebrews 9:22

I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.”

Isaiah43:25

6. The precious blood of Christ makes Him our High Priest, interceding for us.

Jesus’ one sacrifice is eternally effective; Jesus prayed for His disciples and those who believe in Him (John 17:20); now, as the High Priest in heaven, He also intercedes for us.

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

Hebrews 10:19-23

And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Hebrews 7:23-25

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah53:12

7. The precious blood of Christ enables us to approach the Most Holy Place with confidence, to come before God.

God’s promises will not change; He will not contradict Himself. We can approach the throne of grace with confidence to receive God’s grace and mercy.

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 10:19

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

He shall then slaughter the goat for the sin offering for the people and take its blood behind the curtain and do with it as he did with the bull’s blood: He shall sprinkle it on the atonement cover and in front of it.

In this way he will make atonement for the Most Holy Place because of the uncleanness and rebellion of the Israelites, whatever their sins have been. He is to do the same for the tent of meeting, which is among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

No one is to be in the tent of meeting from the time Aaron goes in to make atonement in the Most Holy Place until he comes out, having made atonement for himself, his household and the whole community of Israel.

Leviticus 16:15-17

How can we make all of this a reality that we can experience?

We must meditate on this: when we face the precious blood of Christ, do our hearts and our attitudes truly value it as much as it is the blood of God?

What does this mean? It means that when we accept His life, it means He has transferred His blood into our lives. You possess His life; you are redeemed; you no longer live alone; you have life. His precious blood shed for you is so precious, so valuable.

Therefore, the first thing is that you must meditate every day on the Lord’s precious blood shed for us on the cross. Every day, you must come boldly before God the Father, relying on His blood. Through His blood, we can pray to God and establish a relationship with Him. Our fellowship, praise, and worship are all through His blood, enabling you to connect with the holy God. What a great thing this is! When I meditate on this, I can only give thanks, thanking Him for giving His precious blood.

Secondly, every day of our lives, our goal is to please God. We cannot grieve or sadden God, because we do not trample on the precious blood of Christ. We must remember that God has shed His blood for us. The embodiment of the preciousness of the Lord is “obeying Him.” It is not just something we say is precious, but an expression of obedience in our lives.

This is our attitude towards the precious blood. If we know this is “precious blood,” do we cherish Him so much? How we treat God today will make everything about Him a reality in our lives. The Lord Jesus taught us the principle of measuring others: what you measure with, others will measure with you. Similarly, this applies to our relationship with God. When we cherish the Lord Jesus, we can experience more of the power of God’s precious blood.
